That's right Benjamin, you show us those sweet strong muscles!
When Benjamin was just 4 months old, we discovered his milk allergy. This meant trips to the allergist for confirmation. This meant mama bear moments making sure people who watched Benjamin knew that drinking milk had the potential to send my boy to the hospital.
But, for three years, we carried an EpiPen and never had to use it. God's Grace
We did see reactions. Hives and redness when mama gave him sister's Sour Cream and Onion potato chips. One of the craziest was sitting in a highchair and getting hives on his belly and legs just from contact with the residue on the highchair.
We do not take for granted the blessing of the severity of his allergy but the minor-ness of his reactions.
At 3.5, Benjamin was tested for his milk allergy. He tested NEGATIVE! The doctor's jaw was on the floor. We blood-tested to confirm. Then it was time for the cooked milk challenge, eating a corn muffin with milk baked in at the doctor's office. He passed that! So for 6 months, we slowly added in baked in milk foods.
Then, it was January. One week before his birthday.
We showed up at the doctor, and
Benjamin
drank
milk
"I like it, Mom."
This felt huge! Benjamin drank milk, and nothing happened! What a sweet moment!!
Since then,
bring on all the food!
M&Ms
Icecream!
Pizza!
Benjamin, being your mama bear was my honor. But, feeding you pizza and icecream was absolutely my pleasure!!
