29 Weeks

I can not believe that there are only 11 weeks to go! Today I am happy that both baby and mama are healthy. I had to sit through the three hour glucose test after failing the one hour. Luckily my wonderful, amazing, handsome husband sat with me through it; he knows I am a wimp with needles. Good news! I passed!! I don't have gestational diabetes!! So, today we say thanksgiving because:
- I passed my test
- my baby is growing on schedule and moving around all the time
- I have a supportive husband who wants to be around to "protect" me

Weekend with the Parents

My parents came to visit this past weekend. My mom's birthday was in the week before. It was such a treat to have them here. It was also a treat to spend the afternoon just me and my momma. She has wanted to have an English-style tea for a while now. Will and I were excited to come across this tea shop in Wake Forest.

They served us tea with the scone of our choice, little sandwiches (cucumber, chicken salad, tuna salad), and petit desserts. It was nice to do something out of the ordinary.

It was also a fun place to people watch. My favorite table was across the room from us, a table of six girls probably around seven years old. They were having an American girl tea party. They all had brought with them their American doll and enjoyed tea with sandwiches and cupcakes. It definitely made me excited to think I will have my own baby girl in a few months!

Meanwhile,
the men went 4-wheeling. Dad had never gone before. He was excited to get to take a ride in Tusk (the jeep), and, as always, Will was more than happy to show him off. I loved seeing the boys enjoy some guy time together.

27 weeks

My sister has been wanting a new belly post, and this week proved a good week to take the pictures. My students were particularly vocal about how I looked on Thursday.

When I walked into first period, one of my students said, "Mrs. Simmons, I like the black dress. It's very slimming."

Within minutes a different student from first period said, "Mrs. Simmons, I don't know about that dress. I might not wear it again if I were you." -pause- "It makes you look big."

I guess you can decide for yourself what you think. I did get a mixture of comments that day. Depending on whether someone got a front or back or side view, I heard that people thought I looked very slim or very big. One boy walked into the room and said, "Well poo Mrs. Simmons, you've grown! Can I touch it?"

Student Stories

My students have not been very creative in their sayings lately; they are just not giving me as good material as usual. Here are the best two that I could come up with:

Last week, I drove to work. Got out. Took 4 steps on the sidewalk and heard the snap. The strap on my high heel had broken. (nothing to do with pregnancy, just an old shoe that I like and stubbornly didn't want to replace yet) So, my high heel has become a flip flop. My first period was taking a test, so luckily there was a teacher who could be there with them and I drove home and got a new pair of shoes. The funny part was that my students said simultaneously,
"Mrs. Simmons, we tol' you not to be wearing heels no more. You pregnant."
"It's a sign. You are not allowed to wear heels anymore."
"What you thinkin'? You and that baby shouldn't be in heels."

So, add that to the list guys: no feta cheese, no glass of wine, no deli meat, and no high heels.

Yesterday, I saw a student that I had two years ago, the school year that I got married. She saw my belly for the first time and got so excited. This is how our conversation went:
"Oooh, Mrs. Simmons, you're pregnant. Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?"
a girl
"You're having a girl; you are so lucky." pause, dramatic sigh, "Your life is like a princess. You are married and have a job and now you are having a little girl." sigh and big grin

I guess she said it. I am one lucky girl! I agree. I am married to my knight and having my own little princess.
