Student One-Liners

All of these comments I have received in the last two days:

"Mrs. Simmons, you 'G'. Yeah, you gangsta."

"Mrs. Simmons, you ready to pop yet?"

"Hey Mrs. Simmons, you look like a purple oompa loompa!" (I am wearing the outfit from the "I'm pregnant" post.)

"You know, pregnant woman shouldn't wear black and white. It makes them look like a cow. Yeah, see, the belly is like the udders." (I was wearing black and white; glad to know I inspire.)

32 Weeks

Sweet and Sour

Here are a few moments from the classroom:

Sweet:
"Mrs. Simmons, I brought an apple"
Cool. [This coming from a student that watches me eat an apple almost every morning as her class 2nd period begins.]
"No, Mrs. Simmons, I brought you an apple."
Oh! Thank you! I actually had run out of apples for me today.
"Well, my mom said that it is rude to eat in front of a pregnant woman. And, I have eaten an apple in here for the last few days. So, today I wanted to share with you."

Sour:
"Mrs. Simmons, are you still feeling sick?"
Not as often, but sometimes.
"Do you feel good other than that?"
Yeah, I feel pretty good. My feet are starting to swell a bit.
"Let me see!"
"Oh yeah, I can tell that!"
"I think the left is bigger than the right now."
"No, the right is defintely bigger."
"Ew, Mrs. Simmons, the right definitely has a bulge."
My foot is bulging! I really need to work on their word choice.

Funny:
"Hey Mrs. Simmons, have you thought of a nickname for your daughter? 'Cause I have a good one for her.....AK-40Simmons!"
Clever!

The first story is from one of my sweetest Algebra 1 girls. The other two are from my Pre-Calculus kids.

Then and Now

Amber and I met on the second day of orientation at Gardner-Webb University and were inseparable during the four years that followed. Though after college we moved to separate places (Raleigh, NC vs Waco, TX), we have kept up through the last 5 years.

This picture was taken last August. Amber was about 4 months pregant and enjoying a small baby bump. I would find out in about 2 weeks that I am pregnant. Now, Amber has a 9 week old baby boy Olin, and I am 31 weeks pregnant with my baby girl! [If you don't know Amber, then feel free to simply oooh and aaah about how small I once was and how 31 weeks looks on me. What a crazy difference 31 weeks can make!]

Look at my great college friend and her handsome boy! I look forward to introducing my little girl to him. But, Olin, remember no dating until you are 21!

a March snow day

When it snows in March and a pregnant teacher gets the day off,
what does she do?

Work on her baby girl's quilt!

I'm Pregnant!

This week I have turned into the cliche of a pregnant woman. My feet are starting to swell. When I get home from work, I notice that I put my hand on my back as I walk. I haven't seen my feet for weeks. I can't bend over, so I do weird side bends or full squats to pick something up. This week I have heard often, "you have blossomed," or "look at you grow," or as I walk down the hall students say (as though I can't hear), "is she ready to pop yet?" I am not that big yet, but I am getting there! When I am being a ham, I look at Will and ask how on earth am I going to get any bigger than I already am!
